Year 10 News

Welcome back to the Year 10s in what has been a mammoth year of their schooling.

We are so happy at how you have handled these stressful and challenging times.

On a positive note we are eagerly preparing for your return in order to prepare most of you for entering your first year of VCE. This is the time you have been waiting for in terms of choosing your own subjects that will ultimately lead to your pathway of choice.

Even though it has been a difficult year, we do still expect students to follow GEC protocols, like uniform, attendance and behaviour upon return, and know that this is an important thing to continue with, once they return to school. You have come too far to give up now, in what has not been the ideal situation.

As a school we have decided not to go ahead with Year 10 exams this year, in order for teachers to teach more content within the classroom to prepare students with the key skills and knowledge required for Year 11 subjects. Students are encouraged to attend all classes, ask for help and complete all required work in order to have a smooth transition for the rest of the year.

We look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces come week 4 and beyond.

Year 11 News

Welcome back to all Year 11 students and families. I know these last few months have been extremely challenging and I'm sure it is a relief to get back to school and back to some form of normality.

I am so impressed with how the Year 11 cohort have handled the disruptions and adjustments posed by significant periods of remote learning this year. Students and families should be so proud of how they have navigated through this year. Hopefully, the resilience and independence skills developed in 2020 will be beneficial in 2021 and beyond.

As we enter the final months of the school year, students will be focusing on finalising the work requirements for their Unit 2 subjects, catching up on outstanding work, and preparing for the end of year exams.  The end of year exams will be a really good opportunity for students to gain VCE exam experience, after having missed out on doing their Unit 1 mid-year exams. Myself, Mr Micallef and subject teachers are all here to support and assist students in getting the most out of the rest of this year to prepare students for their final year of schooling in 2021.

Some students will be finalising plans for a different educational pathway for 2021. Again, Mr Micallef, the college Careers and Pathways Coordinator, Ms Heather Palm, and I are here to provide guidance and assistance to help students make informed decisions about their future pathways.

I wish the Year 11 cohort the best of luck for the important months ahead. Putting the work in now will build a strong foundation for Year 12 2021. To families, please feel free to contact the college if you have and queries or concerns.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

I recently became a youth ambassador for an organisation called Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS). BBBS is an organisation that provides one-on-one mentoring for young people all across the country. I joined the team to provide insight into the challenges young people face in their everyday lives. We recently held an online hackathon, which saw over 100 people come together via zoom, to help create a solution to youth loneliness. Big Brothers Big Sisters is always looking for more young people to help out in any ways they can. There are plenty of ways to get involved, even if you don't have the time commitments! If you would like to know more and/or are interested in getting involved, please  send me an email and I'm happy to answer any questions!!
