From the Assistant Principals

Mid Year Awards

Congratulations to those students who received awards last term; we shared photos of some of the recipients in our last newsletter. Since then we’ve received some additional shots of our students with their certificates. We’re delighted to be able to recognise the hard work and achievements of our students through the newsletter in lieu of the usual public recognition.

Year 12 Student Scholarships

The Department of Education and Training manages up to 60 scholarships that are available to students currently in Year 12 and planning to undertake tertiary studies in 2021.

Applicants for these scholarships are evaluated on their:

  • participation in school activities
  • community involvement
  • academic record for the current year.

Scholarships are either one-off payments or for the duration of the student’s course/study annually.

Most of these scholarships have specific eligibility criteria. Applications are now open and will close on 28 February 2021.

For more information and for a list of available scholarships refer to the 2020-21 Year 12 Student Scholarships factsheet

For information on how to apply visit the student scholarships web page.

Uniforms

As students return from remote learning, it is important that all students wear the correct uniform.

Students are to be in full school uniform before they arrive at school.  This will ensure that our college is represented with distinction whilst students are travelling to and from school.

As we head into summer, the Glen Eira College design hats are an important item for students to have in their bags. Hats and caps of any other style will be confiscated by staff.

A plain white t-shirt is permissible under the school shirt.  Any plain white t-shirt (i.e. no logos or designs) must be worn as an undershirt only and must not show below the sleeve or below the hemline.

Similarly, please be reminded that all dresses and skirts should be of an appropriate length - not shorter than 5cm above the knee. The college dress may only be worn with black socks. The college skirt may be worn with either tights or black socks but not both.

Socks must be plain black with no logos and must cover the ankles.

Nails must be of a reasonable length to participate in the curriculum safely. Students who choose to have fake nails can only do so if they are short and of neutral colour. Long nails are a safety issue and will be addressed by year level coordinators. Makeup and coloured nail polish are not part of the uniform and must not be worn. Natural coloured foundation with SPF is the only permissible makeup.

Students should not wear jewellery to school other than a watch and a max of 2 pairs of studs or sleepers in the ears only.

Attendance

Be on time – learning begins at 9! It is important for students to arrive at school by 8:45am. This gives students time to collect their books from their locker and make their way to their first lesson.

We know that life occasionally makes promptness difficult. If your child is going to be late for any reason, please use the school absence line on 9571 4178. Alternatively, write a note or email the school at the following address: glen.eira.co@education.vic.gov.au

Daily attendance is important for all young people to succeed in education and to ensure they do not fall behind both socially and developmentally. Minimum 95% attendance is expected from all students in all year levels. School participation maximises life opportunities for young people by providing them with education and support networks. School helps people to develop important skills, knowledge and values that set them up for further learning and participation in their community.
