The Lion Library

No Phone Reading Zone

The Lion Library remains open and is regularly used to full capacity before school and at break times. Great care is being taken to keep the library safe for student use including measures to sanitise surfaces, books and other resources. We encourage students to keep reading and to keep borrowing books. A new ‘No Phone Reading Zone’ has been set up with comfortable lounges and a great collection of books on display. We hope students will take the opportunity to make some time in their busy day to cuddle up with a good book and enjoy the new space.

Lunchtime Activities

Many activities are reoccurring this term including, origami mindfulness colouring in activities, Maths for fun worksheets and knitting on Wednesday at lunchtime. Also on Wednesday at lunchtime students can take part in the Kindness Hearts project. Finally, keep your eye out for the writers and illustrators group meetings if you are an aspiring author or illustrator. Follow us on Instagram to stay informed about library events and activities.

1000 Hearts

The 1000 Hearts project is based around small pocket hearts which are handmade from wool felt and stitched with love and good intentions. It was started in 2016 by Sarah, a psychologist and counsellor of 15 years experience from Tasmania who wanted to offer love in an all-inclusive way with no cost, no conditions and no limits. Sarah offers donated hearts to people as a symbol of compassion, care and kindness.

Mrs Gibbs initially started making hearts for family and friends and has donated hearts to Killara High School staff, students and the Counselling service to give to anyone who might need a little love. Stitching and sometimes decorating the hearts is a good way to reduce anxiety.

On Wednesdays at lunchtime in the Lion Library, a small group of students and Mrs Gibbs are helping to make Kindness Hearts for the Counselling service at Killara High School. No experience is necessary, anyone can join in to help make these kindness hearts.
