Reflection

'The world offers you comfort. But you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.'  Pope Benedict XVI.

As we continue through this time of lockdown, we are certainly being pushed into a new way of living and being.  In a sense we are being pushed out of our comfort zone. In the quote above, the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, reminds us that we are made for greatness.  We are created by God to do more than just go through the motions, more than just survive another day.

At this time, we can be living for when things change, we can be living for when we can go out, we can be living for when we can have people over etc.   We are reminded that we are called to live in the present moment. To live greatness now.  Not to plan to do something in the future, but to live it now.

Each day is a different and unique gift and a day where we can love God and all the people He puts in our path.  It is an opportunity to embrace all that is given to us this day and live it striving for greatness.  Striving to love as God wants us to, striving to be present to others, supportive, listening, loving, reaching out.   We could set ourselves to leave this for tomorrow, for next week, for when I feel better, for when lockdown is over.  Maybe we don’t feel comfortable striving and want to wait until we feel more comfortable embracing growth and change.

As St Paul said, 'now is the favourable time, this is the day of salvation' (2 Cor 6:2). There is no time like now to pray, reflect, listen to the Holy Spirit speaking in our hearts and make a change. Make decisions to grow, to be the person we have been created to be and to strive for greatness.  It may start with a small decision; to listen more, to pray for a few minutes, to do an act of good for another without being asked.  It is in the little things, from the little things that big things grow.  Let us make a start TODAY!
