SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Sarah Bridges

Senior Sub School Manager

This newsletter signifies another fortnight of Flexible and Remote Learning and has reinforced the importance of the need to stand together as a school community and support each other. The need for a healthy relationship between students, parent/carers and the school has never been more crucial to help us get the best out of these challenging times. I encourage all students, parent/carers to continue to communicate with the student management and teaching teams regarding any concerns or questions. Thanks to our leaders in Year 11 and 12 who have been truly modelling our school values and indeed extra ones of resilience, persistence and initiative by leading Year Level assemblies and  running theme days, such as crazy hair day and book week . So proud of you all as leaders and as a cohort.

Resources to support Senior Students

The following is a link to a website that provides support and advice to senior students, and includes webinars and advice from leading psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg. Well worth a look!

VCE

Revision Lectures. We are part of a regional initiative to provide VCE revision lectures to students to support their learning and revision for the VCAA exams. These are available on the weekends, the first week of the school holidays and into term 4. Students are also able to access recordings of the lectures if they miss the original. Details are available on the VCE google classroom and Compass.

UNIT 3 and 4

  • GAT: Wednesday, 7 October. ALL Unit 3 and 4 students will need to sit the GAT. This includes those who have elected to be a non-ATAR student.
  • Practice Exams will take place in the second week of the school holidays. 28/9-1/10.

Year 12

VTAC / COURSE APPLICATIONS / SEAS / SCHOLARSHIPS:

  • All Year 12 students should now be in the process of setting up their VTAC account and also identifying course preferences. Google classroom has been used to share much of this information and other useful resources.
  • Lunch time help sessions via google meet have been provided for all students to join and be guided through these processes. Students may also make individual appointments with the careers team if they have specific questions pertaining to their own individual career journey. We urge parents to discuss the process with their child.
  • Keep in mind this involves VCE and VCAL students as the course selection covers University and TAFE placements.  However, many TAFE’s are also now open for direct application. Students should be exploring areas of interest and gathering information in order to make a short list.
  • Students are urged to submit a SEAS (Special Consideration) application and there are many opportunities for scholarships. It is very important to become familiar with these processes and meet deadlines.
  • Timely applications for VTAC close on 30 September – applications after this date incur a higher fee. SEAS and scholarship applications close 9 Oct. Students are urged to submit the applications for VTAC and SEAS asap and they can make amendments to them right up to the closing dates.
  • Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Oral or Performance Exams:

  • Students who have performance or oral language exams should have received a letter and VCAA notice providing the date and time of the exam. Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements and need to ensure they are organised and prepared. Any questions or queries please contact Ms Sulomar or Ms Bridges.
