MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

Mr Allister Hill

Middle Sub-School Manager

I would like to start with a huge congratulations to all our Year 9 and 10 students. This year has been like no other, however, you continue to reach high and deliver exceptional results. Parents and students would have recently received the week 6 progress reports. Given the current circumstances, some people may have expected a big drop off in Performance Averages (PA). However, the results students have delivered over the last four weeks have been outstanding.

As you would be aware, progress reports are a reporting mechanism where students' levels of effort and application to their studies are measured irrespective of their level of academic ability.  It is hoped that the implementation of Performance Averages (PA) will provide a framework whereby teachers, families and students can work together to promote positive learning habits and behaviours. The perfect PA for your progress report is 4. Students are usually marked on the following learning behaviours.

  • Attendance
  • Achievement Homework
  • Participation
  • Preparation and organisation
  • Respect to staff/students

Our Year 9 students continued to set really high standards. The week two progress reports indicated a PA of 3 across the Year 9 cohort. Remarkably, this has increased to a PA of 3.11 for the week six progress reports. Furthermore, we had 85 students receive a PA of 3.5 or above in week two. For the week six progress reports we have still had 75 students receive a PA of 3.5 or above. We have also seen several individual improvements across the cohort. This time around we also had 8 students receive a perfect PA of 4. This is an outstanding achievement. These students have received a perfect PA for each subject. I would like to individually acknowledge these students:

  • Ishanika Arumuganathan
  • Nguyen Minh Thu (Annie) Bui
  • Emily Heitmann
  • Mason Lee
  • Haisong Qi
  • Kirra Robinson
  • James Smith
  • Heidi Tillson

Our Year 10 students have demonstrated big improvements also. The week two progress reports indicated a PA of 3.19 across the Year 10 cohort. Again, we have seen an increase with a PA of 3.29 for the week six progress reports. Furthermore, we have seen several students make individual improvement across the Year level. In week two, 82 Year 10 students received a PA of 3.5 or above.  For the week six progress reports we have had 98 students receive a PA of 3.5 or above. Remarkably, we have also seen an increase in the number of students receiving a perfect PA of 4, from 7 students in week two, to 20 students in week six.  This is an outstanding achievement. These students have received a perfect PA for each subject. I would like to individually acknowledge these students:
