Stage 3 Science Fair

On Thursday Week 9, students from Stage 3 participated in their Science Fair. What a fantastic event! Everyone in Stage 3 showcased some incredible work covering our theme for the term: Change Detectives. On display were some amazingly delicious and creative projects. Many students showed their research on how to change matter from one state to another and even back to its original state. Lots of chocolate was involved to show this! During the fair, clouds were formed, balloons were inflated by combining certain solids and liquids, and different types of cake were displayed (and eaten afterwards!) showing how our amazing world is made up of just solids, liquids and gases. Thank you to all the primary and high school classes who came to visit our Fair. Stage 3 loved to show you their displays and explain their experiments to you. Thank you to Mr Bray and all staff for coming to see the great efforts of Stage 3. Everyone had a brilliant time.

Shakespere on Zoom!

On Wednesday afternoon, a group of students met in the Drama Room to take part in a workshop run by the theatre company, Bell Shakespeare. This renowned Sydney company is offering regional schools these workshops for students to explore acting skills and Shakespearean plays. None of us knew what to expect from an acting workshop on Zoom but the Bell tutor, Huw, had the group moving, saying lines and chasing each other around the room. He gave advice and techniques for approaching Shakespeare, or any script, and finding a new way to approach it. It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon with a beautiful group of students. Thank you to the group who entered into the experience with impressive energy for a Wednesday after school in Week 9! Thanks also to the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre who have been organising these opportunities in the local area.

Stage 3 students get Bible FIT

On Friday 11 September, 41 students from Stage 3, attended Followers In Training (FIT), a Christian leadership program facilitated by the Crusaders Union.

As part of the theme, “Christian Leaders Love the Bible”, students learnt a number of practical, fun, and rather inventive ways to teach from the Bible. Students learnt about what it means to be a Christian leader. They were encouraged in their personal faith and given strategies to help them read and understand the bible better.

Students participated in a number of electives, which included telling stories through drama, voice acting, role play and memory verse games. It was wonderful to see students enjoying themselves, encouraging one another and participating so well in the activities that were offered. While restrictions prevented students from joining with Christian leaders from other schools this year, we were very blessed to be able to offer such an impactful program.

Thank you to the Crusaders School Ministry team, Clare, Bailey, Dan, Kellie and Naomi, for making this event possible. The Crusaders Union provides the material for CRU group meetings, which are held each Friday lunchtime for students in Stages 2 and 3. We are looking forward to a visit from the Crusaders team to one of our CRU group meetings later in the year.

Parlez-vous Français?

Our Senior French Beginners students were put to the test on Saturday 5 September, at St Johns High School, when they completed the speaking component of their HSC.

Each student was interviewed by a NESA appointed person, who came down from Sydney for the day. For a period of five minutes they had to answer a variety of questions such as, 'Do you play sport? What type of music do you like? Describe your house/family/ neighbourhood. What do you study at school? What did you do last weekend? What are your plans for next year?'

The responses of the students as they came out of the exam varied from, 'terrible' through 'I was able to answer some of the questions' to  'I know I did better than in the Trials! '20% of the HSC is now behind us. Reading, writing and listening skills remain to be tested in November.

Personally, I feel like a mother hen, so proud of her chicks who have worked so hard to develop these skills. Well done to Imika, Daniel, Lincoln, Charlotte, Annie and Jemma. Vous êtes fantastiques!

Thank you to everyone who prayed for them.
