Principal's Message

What a term it has been and what great work students have presented! I have thoroughly enjoyed visiting Seesaw and Google Classroom to see and listen to students as they posted their work and demonstrated what they had learnt.

Recently, I saw the preps present their weather forecasts; so knowledgeable and yet with a little bit of humor thrown in. I laughed as an open umbrella was handed to one presenter as he smiled and said, “It is Melbourne, after all.”

The year 6 students were involved in an inquiry that required them to create and then present their own business during term 3, encouraging entrepreneurial and creative thinking. The year 5’s are still hard at work on their Museum in Motion unit of work, and I am looking forward to their celebration day next term.

I was honored to be the subject of an entertaining drama performance. Apparently students had worked so well, I cancelled all work for them for the rest of the term! It was very clever.

Then last week I received a very persuasive letter from one of our year 4 students.

I am writing this letter to you because I know for a fact that we have students with autism at our school…

Recently, I've started thinking about, what will my next writing piece be about, and it popped in my head, something that I saw on the news about autism, then my classmate from last year came into my mind, all these thoughts started to come to my head: I thought about, how was he feeling in the class? As well as his emotions, was it hard for him to make friends? I had all these other questions that came into my mind. So I did my research, I know more about autism, how some of these kids are feeling and how are they finding the school. … it got me thinking MORE. If we have so many kids in our mainstream schools who are with autism, we also MUST have a day of awareness, so all the other students can learn and know, what it means to have autism, and how to understand their schoolmates BETTER and be there for them.

So Ms McInerney, can you PLEASE together with the teachers at our school MAKE SURE that we have that educational day for all the students? … I know that "The World Awareness Day" is on April 2nd. I'm hoping that our school would also be part of this day, and we should ALL wear blue that represents the support of all the kids at our school.”

It was so persuasive, I just had to agree.

Another highlight has been the opportunity to drop in to class webex meetings and see so many smiling faces and receive so many waves.

A message in Indonesian brought a smile to my face. It included a salutation at the beginning and farewell, using what he had learnt this term; just delightful.

Thank you to our JSC reps who organised our Fun Footy Day this week. Mrs Mitrevski and I enjoyed our webex meetings with them and they are now working on ideas for term 4. I was very impressed with their use of the protocols for online meetings, which demonstrated our school values of Respect and A fair go for All; great job JSC reps.

These are just some examples of how students and families have tried really hard to engage with learning this term.

Thank you all and congratulations on your efforts and commitment to supporting your children.

We are really looking forward to seeing all our Prep to year 2 students on Monday October 12 and our year 3 to 6 students as soon as it is deemed safe next term.

Take care and stay well,
