Term 3 - Reflection
“You are who you REALLY are when nobody is watching”. This is a sentiment that ADP coaches have been instilling in our student athletes, especially during term 3 of remote learning. As typically, what we are like when nobody is watching, eventually becomes obvious when they are. Behaviours, habits, work ethic, motivation, manners, courage, respect, kindness etc are they different when we have an audience?
COVID isolation is really testing us all. It’s certainly testing what our student athletes are really like. It’s a difficult time, absolutely it is. But when the going gets tough, the tough get going. And we have been really proud of our student athletes endeavours to rise and often thrive through this challenging time.
ADP student athletes have been busy working hard with their ‘at home’ strength and conditioning training 2-3 times (minimum) per week all throughout lockdown. Some of our most impressive athletes have indicated daily training practises. Athlete training journals have been uploaded weekly to obtain personalised coaches feedback and enhance their progress. The most dedicated athletes have even taken advantage of the special offer for personalised ONLINE VIDEO ANALYSIS with Coach Cam.
Our tennis athletes have been working remotely (via online) with Coach John and his Gripping Potential Team. As have our Basketball athletes with Coach Paul and Cam, likewise our AFL future stars connecting with Coach Rick to ensure that they are ready to return to their sport trainings/matches when they do.
Our eventual return to sport will clearly show which athletes are genuine about their desire to improve and which just talk about it. We believe our student athletes in the ADP should have a big advantage during this ‘return to play’.
All ADP staff can’t wait for the return to in-person coaching/training and eventually the really fun bit, playing the SPORT. We hope the student athletes will continue to work hard with their ‘return to play re-load phase’ and are ready to rumble when it’s all back better than ever very soon!
