Digital Technologies

Where has the time gone :) It feels like only yesterday I was laying on the beaches of Bali…
Term Two has been a very busy and productive one. Students have developed their skills in areas of the Digital Technology curriculum and have begun to extend in new areas. I am really looking forward to the introduction of coding into our lessons.
Foundation – Level 2
Teaching Focus:
- Explore how people safely use common information systems to meet information, communication and recreation needs
- Recognise and explore digital systems (hardware and software components) for a purpose.
The students in Foundation have explored the app – Doceri. The students have learnt some important skills which will be used as a foundation for other apps we explore in 2019.
The Level 1 and 2s have begun using Sketchbook, a digital resource used for drawing, sketching and editing images. This app is free on the app store and easy enough for people of all ages to use.
Levels 3 & 4
Teaching Focus:
- define simple problems, design and implement digital solutions using algorithms that involve decision-making and user input.
- explain how the solutions meet their purposes.
Students in Levels 3 & 4 have been learning the basic skills of Scratch2. Students are learning about block based coding apps and this is their first introduction to programming. Students have developed some amazing work already and have integrated this into their Mappen units (They may or may not have taught Miss Peacock a few things already :))
Levels 5 & 6
Teaching Focus:
- Plan, create and communicate ideas and information, including collaboratively online, applying agreed ethical, social and technical protocols.
Students have continued to utilise the google suite in Term 2. Working collaboratively on various projects to extend their learning and supporting others.
Later in the term we began looking at Hopscotch as we explore coding and block based programming skills.
