Curriculum Report, June

Hard to believe, but Term 2 is nearly at a close!  This term has been jam packed with learning; it has been great to see the progress students have been making in their learning and having a lot of fun along the way.

Thanks to all of our families and friends who came along on our Open Afternoon to share students’ progress in Writing.  It was great to see all of the writing on display, and hearing students talk about how they progressed through the different stages of the writing process.

Next term, our focus will turn to Poetry for the first unit of work, so I’m sure we will see some creative and interesting writing.  In Maths, most year levels will begin units of work around fractions and division, or fractions and decimals.  Curriculum overviews will be available early in Week 1 of next term, and these overviews will show the specific goals being focused on in each unit of learning for Numeracy, Speaking and Listening.  Reading and Writing.

Here is an example:

This term we have updated our curriculum overviews to include a section that gives a few ideas of how learning could be supported at home.  There are lots of opportunities to support learning at home, even in small ways, such as through discussions, games and other family activities.

If you are after further ideas, the Department of Education has produced a handbook:  Literacy and Numeracy Tips to Help Your Child Every Day.  In this book there are lots of practical ideas and tips about how you can support your child’s learning.  It also has links to other online resources from the Department.
