Student Leadership

At Mount Carmel College, our Catholic heritage and tradition informs our model of leadership.  Great emphasis is placed on the qualities of service and sacrifice.  We look to Jesus Christ and the founders of the College, the Sisters of Charity, for inspiration as we work as leaders for the benefit of the entire community.

We formally congratulate the following students who have been elected to positions of responsibility for Terms 1 and 2.  The students are looking forward to working alongside the Year 10 College Captains and Student Leaders in the coming months.  The Year 6 Leaders will be presented with their badges and certificates at the Kinder to Year 6 Assembly, Friday March 13 commencing at 10am in the Cahill Centre.

Year 6 Leaders:

Sofia Bowman - Shaw, Arabella Burns, Maddie Linnell and Florence Timbs

House Captains:

Carmel: Lottie Groves and  Eva Sommerville

Loreto: Rakaia Arahanga and Phoebe Graham

Lourdes: Hannah Jager and Charlotte Turner

The Restorative Practice Leaders will be appointed in the coming fortnight.

Think U Know

Next Thursday morning, Constable Simon Jones will work with the Year 5, 6, 7 and 8 students on the topic of cyber safety.

Without question, technology plays an important role in how young people maintain their friendships and communicate with those closest to them.  It is their reality.  Collectively, we need to arm students with the right information, and empower them to make the right choices.

THINKUKNOW provides advice drawing on what children SEE, SAY and DO online.  In doing so, a range of topics may be addressed:

  • browsing the internet
  • downloading and file sharing
  • age appropriate content
  • instant messaging and chat apps
  • devices and apps
  • social media
  • gaming.

In response to the challenges that young people face online, a range of tips will be discussed including how to report and get assistance when things go wrong.

I strongly encourage parents and carers to view the resources available on the THINKUKNOW website (https://www.thinkuknow.org.au/)

SEQTA Engage

At this week’s Parent Information Evening Class Teachers discussed our School Learning Management System, SEQTA, and in particular Engage, the parent portal.  If you are uncertain about how to access the portal including downloading the app please do not hesitate to seek.

SEQTA is a powerful learning tool as it allows teachers to continuously report directly to parents and students across the curriculum.  Our continuous reporting structure endeavours to ensure that feedback to students and parents is goal orientated, tangible, actionable, specific, personalised, timely, ongoing and consistent.

For our Kindergarten parents, Storypark will be used to record and communicate learning as it happens via video, photographs, audio and observations.
