College Sport

Thank you to all the students and parents that have signed up to play, coach, manage, umpire, car pool and support sport this term.

After school sport is now up and running, with Mount Carmel represented last week in Year 7 soccer, Year 8 soccer, Secondary cricket and Year 5/6 tennis.  Today we will also have six teams running out in the JSSATIS soccer roster, with some older students also helping with coaching and refereeing.

In team sport, your team mates are relying on you.  If a commitment has been made to a team, there is an expectation to attend all trainings and games.  Please keep Team Managers / Coaches or me informed if anything changes and your child can no longer participate or will miss games. This is the key to making sure we always have enough players for games.

It is fantastic to see so many teams representing the College.  Good luck to everyone participating!

Rowing – Southern Schools Regatta

The 2020 Southern Schools Rowing Regatta was held at Franklin on 15 and 16 February and six of our Mount Carmel rowers competed.  Ursula Nation, Mia Reardon, Lucy Balfour, Olivia Hart, Kate Steele and Stella Riseley rowed in their respective age divisions in quads, doubles and singles races achieving some great results over the two days.   Mia and Lucy both took out first place in their divisions of the U15 single scull and Ursula placed second in her division of the U14 single and double scull.

For Olivia, Kate and Stella this was their first school regatta and they rowed some great races in quads and doubles with their three other team mates. The girls are all looking forward to competing again this weekend at the North West Schools regatta at Lake Barrington.   Thanks to Chris Reardon and Lindsay Ims for coaching the crews so far this season.

SSATIS Sport – Soccer and Cricket

Year 7 and Year 8 Soccer kicked off on Tuesday last week.  The Year 8 team have played two fantastic games, opening with a 3-0 win to Collegiate, and then a 9-0 defeat of Fahan this week.  The Year 7 team played short in their first game against Fahan last week, but won on forfeit to St Aloysius who were on camp this week.  The team is looking forward to the remainder of the season, but is hopeful some more players can be found from Year 7 to fill the team.  Please let me know if you are interested. Games are played at either Fahan or St Aloysius at 4:15pm on Tuesdays.

The SSATIS Junior Girls Cricket roster is also underway with two teams represented.  Mount Carmel Navy, including students from Year 7/8, enjoyed a close first up encounter with Fahan, securing a 20 run win.  The Gold team, which includes students from Year 8-10, were depleted in their first game with cricket academy commitments and injuries.  Thanks to some wonderful fill-in players, the team defeated Friends’ Red by 50 runs.
