Australian Mathematics Competition

The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) is offered each year by the Australian Mathematics Trust.  The AMC is an engaging 30-problem competition that demonstrates the importance and relevance of mathematics in students’ everyday lives.

This year the Competition will take place online between Thursday 30th July and Thursday 6th August (Term 3 Weeks 2-3). Students from Years 7–10 are welcome to enter. This is a great opportunity for students to challenge themselves, especially in the area of problem solving. Nominations are due by Tuesday 21 July. Please click here  to express your interest. The cost for the competition is $6.50.

'Real Talk' Reflection Days

Earlier this week  Year 7 and 9 students had the opportunity to attend a reflection day facilitated by ‘Real Talk’. The main focus was on encouraging and empowering students to make positive choices that show respect for others and for themselves based on Catholic Christian values and to help them understand God’s amazing plan for love and life.

Year 7 activities and discussions were based on the topics of self-worth, personal identity, good decision-making, love and relationships.

Year 10 activities and discussions were based on the topics of relationships, sex, self-worth and personal identity.

Yr 8 Agricultural Technology

Yr 8 have been following the journey of agricultural products from paddock to plate and learning about food preparation techniques and healthy eating. Last Thursday, they prepared herb damper and beetroot dip using parsley, chives, dill, garlic, cumin, yogurt, beetroot, butter, flour and milk, all of which are either grown, or produced from crops grown by farmers.

The importance of hygiene, correct and careful use of equipment, following a procedure and exploring various methods of preparing food substances was explored in a fun and interactive way. Students worked in small cooperative groups and thoroughly  enjoyed taste testing the results. Many said they never eaten beetroot raw, baked or in a salad, but liked the taste when combined with other ingredients in a dip. This was even nicer when eaten with damper and crackers.

Thank you to Kathy for allowing us to use the canteen space and equipment and Della for taking photos.
