Student Letter of Thanks

Thank you to Kailan Stork-Finlay of Year 8, who forwarded this letter to BHHS staff via our Principal, Ms Losh Pillay, following the Remote Learning period.

Dear Teachers and Staff,

I would personally like to thank you all along with all the other teachers and staff out there for doing the best you can to help us still get an education through this time.

Thank you for all the time and effort you have put in, along with hosting all your classes video calls and still making them fun and worthwhile. This has been a tough time for everyone, and you have taken time from your 'normal' lives to help us and answer our questions. Thank you for trying your hardest for learning to seem as normal as possible and by using different websites and formats to do work since most subjects rely on being able to talk with the teacher face to face and other physical elements as a major part of many subjects. Thanks for making the meetings as fun as possible by having some fun conversations, Kahoots and implementing fun activities into our work.

I would also like to thank the Respect and Coordinator teams for looking out for everyone’s mental health and providing resources for us and to help us set up and manage our work and time. Also, thanks to the HPE and Sport staff who have provided resources to encourage us to still get exercise, eat healthily and stay healthy overall. Thank you as well to the Library team for still having the library competitions and thanks to the Junior Coordinator team for having exciting competitions to keep up our morale. Thanks to the newsletter team for making a special 'In this together' edition showing what people have been doing in our school community.

Thank you to all the teachers for participating in the video when this all started. Showing us how much you care and letting us into your world and what you usually do in your time. Unfortunately, a lot of the time we don’t think about what you do with your families and pets since we only see you at school. So, this video has given us a better understanding of your lives as well, which can likely help for the future to remember at the end of the day we are all humans, leading us to trust and feel more confident around you to ask questions and get help.

Like many students I have personally found working from home an unusual experience since it’s not what we’re used to. Personally, I have tried my best to do as much work as I can whilst keeping my sanity, physical and mental health under control. I apologise for any work I haven’t submitted, even after trying to manage time between subjects since somethings are more difficult than others and whilst trying to stay within the working times as to not work too much.

Thanks to my teachers through Term 2:

3D-Art – Ms Lockhart                                         Maths – Ms Richards

English - Ms Akeroyd                                          Music – Mr Rogers

German – Mr Smith                                             Respect – Ms Green

Geography – Ms Bunemann                             Science – Mr Dobson

HPE – Ms Chesterton                                         Voice – Ms De Blasio

I would also like to thank Mr. McGlade for helping me and many of the other Junior students in our school to get through this together and to Ms. Smith for helping all the Year 8s. (not limited to all the respect and coordinating, and senior teams, etc.)

Finally, I would like to thank all the staff and teachers at Box Hill high school and other schools around the world for doing the best you can to provide an ever-important education that is needed for the youth of today. I am especially thankful to have the privilege of having an education overall unlike too many people across the world. I would also like to thank families, friends for supporting us and to classmates who have answered questions from peers to reduce the amount the teachers have to.

I am writing this personally, but I am sure many other students will agree. I am writing this for only one reason and that is to thank people and encourage others to do the same by doing whatever they can to bring hope, joy and happiness across the world during this Covid-19 Pandemic.

Thanks to everyone whether it affects me directly or not. Remember we are all in this together and always should be. Please stay safe from Covid-19 to protect yourself and others around you.

Sincerely,

Kailan Stork-Finlay 8E Co-Class Captain

P.S. Sorry if this is really long, I just want to show my appreciation and once I started I just couldn't stop.
