Maths - a play on words :)

So, how did the Maths department approach remote teaching and learning for Years 7-10? Well, we can all say with a high degree of confidence that it wasn’t your average start to the term….

Our Year 7’s started the term by learning Geometry in a slightly obtuse way which included making acute protractor! Our Year 8 teachers took a chance on running the Probability unit and, in what was probably a certain outcome, the students thought the whole experience was better than Average. The Year 9 Maths unit on Algebra got off to a Variable start but everyone had become true Algebros by the end of it. And finally, the Year 10’s unit on Statistics was certainly not an Outlier because it once again showed that our teachers and students are well above Average.

As we all got into the swing of things and began to work out remote teaching and learning, the Maths department kept making Maths fun and engaging through games, videos, activities away from computers, stories, mystery challenges and problem solving.

The Year 7’s were all incredibly positive about their unit on Integers and the overall experience was greater than expected. The Year 8's found their measurement unit generally measured up, although some wondered if that section on circles seemed a little pointless… The Year 9’s made many statements about their aptitude for Congruence and Similarity while learning about their new favourite tree – Geometry! The Year 10’s had an absurdly Irrational time with their unit on Indices and Surds - it was a powerful experience for all!

Well, I suppose it’s time to round things off and sum up this article… Remote teaching and learning wasn’t always 'easy as Pi' and there were some problems without solutions, but when we all performed our Functions together and supported each other we found success :)
