Head of Campus Reflection

We look forward with much anticipation to the return of our Year 7 – 10's next Tuesday, 9 June 2020. In hindsight the introduction of senior students first has provided us with the opportunity to practice and further refine our new practices in relation to social distancing, healthy work spaces and the new health and hygiene protocols. I refer all parents to the letter sent out earlier this week outlining our expectations upon returning to face-to-face learning. The strong message I want to deliver is that we are ready and waiting for you.

Anxious Parents, Anxious Students

It is understandable that there might be some anxieties around a return to school. For students there has been a certain comfort about being in a relaxed learning environment, wearing casual clothes and being able to sleep in longer. This is not, however, reality. Parents might well have enjoyed the opportunities to connect more meaningfully with their child/children. This is understandable and it is encouraged, as we return to school, that you as parents find other ways to maintain that connection. It is hoped that parents by default have had to connect more deeply with their child’s learning and that opportunity not only still presents itself but is encouraged.

Students as a whole have displayed much resilience through this process and it is critical that this resilience continues to be demonstrated as we move back to face to face learning. What are the traits of the resilient learner?

  • Higher levels of social competence: students who can interact well with others.
  • Problem solving skills: students who can think through how to manage their challenges deal better with challenge, change and adversity
  • Sense of autonomy or self-efficacy: students who have a sense of independence, responsibility and confidence in their own capacity to deal with circumstances fare better in the face of life challenges.
  • Sense of purpose, hope or meaning: students with a sense of optimism about their future and a belief in the meaning and purpose of what they do tend to learn better and thrive

School is the venue and avenue from which these skills can be developed.

Tasty Truck Protocols (9 June 2020 until further notice)

The Tasty Trucks from Tuesday, 9 June 2020 will be available for students.  Please see the video that outlines how the operation of the Tasty Truck and the obligations for all to observe with hygiene and social distancing.

Please be aware that all sales will be cashless - therefore students will need to have a bank card or can opt for a Tasty Truck Cash Card and no change will be given.

  • Cash Cards are purchased from the Tasty Truck and can be used for future purchases.
  • Cards can be reloaded at the van via EFT or cash ( no change)
  • Card details can be downloaded to the Tasty Truck Phone app so students don't need to physically need to carry the card.

Example of how the card works....

If a student was to present with a $20 note but the purchase only came to $5, the driver would issue them with a card for the remaining $15 as no change can be issued.

The Tasty Truck Driver will advise students of remaining balances after purchase. BPAY top up facilities will be available in the near future.

I wish you all a safe and productive week.
