Years 3 to 6 Update

Studying Physical Science

Welcome back to Term 3 for all our Year 3-6 families. We have begun our term enthusiastic and refreshed after the break. We are very excited as we launch into our brand new topics of learning which for this term in HASS is a Physical Science focus.

The 3/4s have been focusing on forces and the 5/6s have been focusing on electricity. I’ll leave it up to our students to tell you about some of the things they have been doing. Thanks to Lucas  for sharing what he has been learning in Science.

I hope you enjoy seeing some of the fabulous work we have done across the College to engage students whilst they are learning about forces including push and pull and gravity.

Close Reading - what is it and what we do.

This term we have also been focusing on  a new reading skill, called close reading and have been using non-fiction texts to locate information to help us. In close reading students have had the chance to do repeated reading of a text. In the first read, they read to get the gist of what the text, then dig a bit deeper on a second and third read. Mia talks about what close reading is and what her class has been doing so far this term. Thanks Mia.

EAL online learning in EAL Transition classes has commenced in all NBC P-8 campuses. The students are using the NBC devices and working with Seesaw and Google classroom platforms. The focus of 1:1 learning is on independent online learning, finding, watching and following instructions. Using the keypad/keyboard to type answers. Year 3-8 students who are using Google Classroom are also learning word-processing skills in Google Docs.

Our EAL students taking EAL Transition English classes four times a week are learning to become more confident with the use of technology, and more independent.

EAL Transition teachers and students on the English program are excited about the new technology and respect and care for the devices they use
