Art - Tuesday
Task: We are continuing to look at the element of art light and shade, also called value. We will keep going with our light and shade exercises to help us develop our drawing techniques. This week, we will do a task to develop the skills we learnt last lesson.
Below is an example of what I would like you to do. You can either print out the sheet provided and have a go shading the 3D shapes, or you can draw the outline of the shapes and shade them in. Notice some sides of the shapes are darker than others.
Reflection:
Looking at your 3D shapes that you have shaded in. Where do you think the light source would be coming from? Which side of the page?

Performing Arts - Thursday
GRADE 3 - WEEK 6
Hi Grade 3s,
In today’s lesson you’re going to develop your understanding of posture, gesture, gait and mannerism, and start to learn how to use these in performing and sustaining your monologue character.
For today’s lesson, you’ll need your notebook (or paper) and a pencil. You’ll also need to be able to access the internet to watch some short YouTube clips.
Task 1: Take a look at the following pictures and try to change your facial expressions and/or body language so that your face/body looks like and is in the same position as the one in the picture:
Can you guess what each character is thinking or feeling by the way they use their facial expressions or body language?
Think: What have you learned from copying these characters?
Remember: In order to portray a good character, it’s important to pay attention to small details
Task 2: Watch the following clips on GESTURE, POSTURE, MANNERISMS and GAIT.
In each clip, I will explain what each of these means and what you will need to consider when you are showing these elements in your monologue character.
- Gestures clip- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_vZZuacM6w
- Posture clip- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JN934siiTE8
- Mannerisms Clip- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRiXEUa9Gmc
- Gait Clip- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tQ8Hzsp_0c
Task 3: So, just to re-cap:
Gesture is a movement of a part of the body to express meaning or an idea (usually hands or upper body).
Posture refers to the position in which a person is standing or sitting.
Gait is the way a person walks.
Mannerisms are a person’s habits in the way the move, speak or behave.
Your task is to create each of these characters:
- A crazy scientist
- A strict teacher
- A superhero
You must decide on a clear gait, posture, gestures and mannerisms for each character.
Create a 20 second scene for each character that demonstrates a clear understanding of each of these terms.
Challenge: Choose ONE of your characters to show to another family member. Don’t tell them which character you are. Can they guess who you are by the gestures, posture, gait, and mannerisms of your character??
