Student Voice

  Classroom Libraries

On Monday 1st November, a small group of Year 7 students were applying their keen eye to our classroom libraries. These students were sorting through the books we currently have, to ensure that our book selection is of the highest quality. Literacy is an exceptionally important part of what we focus on at Greater Shepparton Secondary College, and our classroom libraries need to reflect this.

The students, from 7J, selected books that should be kept and books that needed to be discarded. As part of their decision making process, they highlighted the need to keep books that were visually appealing, were written by authors they valued and respected, and had blurbs that hooked the reader. It was great to see that these students were also thinking critically about having a range of topics and forms of writing, so that all students could find something they enjoyed.  Their input is highly valued and we look forward to the input of other students across our college as we pack up our classroom libraries ready for the move to Hawdon Street.
