Do Good December -
This month, we're encouraging you to carry out small acts of kindness. This has been another difficult year of uncertainty and ups and downs for many of us. Kindness is contagious, and helping others has been proven to make us feel better too! Let's try to focus on being generous with our time and attention rather than money - it's free and better for everyone, as well as our planet!
We have recognised such great behaviour this year. Students have received over 2500 positive rewards throughout the year. Our students are displaying school expectations to a high standard through that we are very proud of. Behaviour in the upper school has also been outstanding & I would like to acknowledge their leadership in being role models of our school.
Suspensions have been minimal with only 15 students having to have time away from the school. Inappropriate behaviour has been supported by staff and students engaging in some fantastic programs to teach students how to make strong choices.
The behaviour team reflected on data this week and will continue to work to support all staff and students to engage in appropriate behaviour and set them up for success at high school and in future careers. Our PBL framework make sure all students are explicitly taught the expected behaviours and establish clear and consistent boundaries. Staff take a proactive, preventative approach to ensure all students receive the appropriate level of support to help them to be successful at school. Student outcomes are monitored so identified students can receive additional support when needed, and a minority of students can access intensive support to enable them to engage successfully at school. The explicit and systematic teaching of social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies to students has been shown to decrease emotional distress and behavioural problems and increase academic scores. SEL helps students manage emotions, set goals, get along with others and make responsible decisions. This will continue into 2022 using the PATHS & Brain Boost programs on a regular basis.
