Countdown!

by Helen Freeman, Principal

As we are getting back to normal, all our programs are running very smoothly. For example, over the last two weeks we have seen our students in Foundation to Year 2 participate in the swimming program and they have all done a super job! The students in Years 5 and 6 last week enjoyed the amazing incursion by Professor Brain, another engaging, mind stimulating activity with plenty of fun for the students. Our Foundation students also celebrated 100 days at school, and we welcomed our wonderful 2022 Foundation students for transition.  The flexibility and resilience of our staff and children is to be commended during this term. We remain positive it will be smooth sailing to the end of the year. (You will find a gallery of photos at the end of this page.)

2022 Parent Payments

Information has now been forwarded to all families regarding next year’s Parent Payments. This documentation was sent as a hard copy to all families on Tuesday. The payments are described in several new categories in line with updated guidelines from the Department of Education & Training (DET). The curriculum contributions section covers all materials provided to each child throughout the year, including their book packs which will be waiting for every student in their classroom on the first day of school next January. We look forward to your support with these payments so that we may continue to ensure an outstanding level of provision and support for every student. If you have any queries regarding these payments or would like to organise a personalised payment plan, please do not hesitate to make contact with Katie Forbes, Business Manager, on 9802 5277.

Staffing News

It’s with a heavy heart but excitement too that I inform you that after 33 years at Syndal South Primary School, Charlie Kenez is retiring at the end of February 2022. Charlie is an icon of the school. His passion and drive regarding the importance of physical activity for every student’s health and wellbeing has been relentless. As a staff member, he has been exceptional, his loyalty, passionate work ethic, his friendship and his boundless support for others are just a few attributes that come to mind, he will be sadly missed.

2021

Charlie will be taking Long Service Leave from the start of the 2022 school year until the end of February, plans are underway to organise a whole school farewell function to celebrate the breadth of Charlie’s time at Syndal South at the end of February 2022.

As a result of Charlie’s upcoming retirement, we have been fortunate to secure Jarrod Riley to replace Charlie next year. Jarrod will be here three days a week. Jarrod is a passionate physical education teacher who we are all looking forward to having join us in 2022.

Weekaway Camp

Next week our Year 5 and 6 students will be travelling to Camp Weekaway to attend their much-anticipated camp. After the many setbacks we have endured, to have this camp go ahead is a welcome relief. I wish all the staff, parents and students a fabulous week.

A reminder, if your child is feeling unwell or displays any symptoms whatsoever, please do not send them to school. Please get tested ASAP and please do not come back to school until you have the “all clear” from the Department of Health.
