Stage 2

Geebungs Excursion

C.A.R.E.S Bike Safety Course

On Monday, 22nd November the Geebungs attended the C.A.R.E.S. Bike Safety Course run by Senior Constable Daniel Pritchard.

The students began the day by learning all about the road rules and the most common signs so they would be able to ride safely on the course. The students were correctly fitted with their helmets and then had to sit a practical test to earn their licences. The students had to ride on a line, come to a complete stop with both feet on the ground, weave around cones and complete a ‘go slow’ race against their classmates. Rose, Thomas and Lucas all won their ‘go slow’ races. The students earnt their licences and then it was time to ride around on the course.

The students had to navigate through a set of traffic lights, two cul de sacs, pedestrian crossings and a roundabout. The children were monitored closely by Constable Pritchard and Mrs Gerrard and any breach of their road rules resulted in a point off their licence. If the students still had seven or more points on their licence at the end of the ride, then they would be rewarded with an ice block.

All of the Geebungs earned their ice block and Constable Pritchard commented on how sensible, safe and polite the class was. We all had a fun time.
