Year 2/3UR

This week in Numeracy, 2/3 UR learnt all about money and financial mathematics. The students worked hard at identifying all the Australian coins and notes that they could think of from shopping experiences they have had. Many students made the connection to our school book fair and this made their learning real and meaningful. Students worked with partners to sort, count and add up their change. Students learnt to find equivalent values between different notes and coins and shared different ways to represent them. They also learnt to check for correct change and give the correct change by role-playing ‘Shops’. Everyone enjoyed learning with play coins and pretending to be shopkeepers. It was an exciting week of counting, adding and subtracting using money in grade 2/3 UR.

Grace:  "I learnt how many 10 cent coins I need to make 2 dollars!"

Eden: "We need to learn about money to buy things at the shops, like at the book fair."

Lucy: "It's fun to use toy coins and learn to count them."

Dylan: "I can use skip counting to help me add up my change."
