LEGAL STUDIES COURT EXCURSION

VCE Legal Studies Group
VCE Legal Studies Group

The Units 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 Legal Studies class took an excursion to the Supreme and County Court. At the Supreme Court students participated in a role play about a trial in the Supreme Court and then were able to sit and listen to expert witness testimony in an ongoing murder trial.

In the afternoon, students were treated to a presentation by the Juries Commissioner, who operates out of the County Court, and then performed a mock jury empanelment inside a County Court courtroom. The day concluded with students sitting in an actual trial where the Judge was presenting the new jury with their instructions. Overall, this was an excellent day of learning and exposure the courts, and their processes. This excursion will be very helpful in understanding the course content as the year progresses.

YEAR 10 SCIENCE EXCURSION

GENETICS AND MICROARRAYS

All Year 10 Science students attended a 2 hour workshop covering Genetics and Microarrays conducted by the KIOSC Trade Training Centre Swinburne University of Technology, Wantirna.

Students were introduced to the concept of epigenetics by completing an interactive activity. Epigenetics is the modification of gene expression due to environmental conditions. When analysing how different conditions arise in individuals, medical professionals can identify how certain cancers have arisen. In the genetics lab, students were able to conduct a modified microarray to analyse and determine the treatment process for two cancer patients. Our students participated very well displaying excellent content knowledge and exemplary behaviour. Overall, a great learning experience for our students.
