Principal

“To be or not to be” – Shakespeare.

“To be or not to be” is the most famous soliloquy in the works of Shakespeare – quite possibly the most famous soliloquy in literature. Shakespeare is recognized across several cultures, and borrows language for his imagery. I commend drama teacher, Mr Kane Felsinger, on his recent work with students and the Shakespeare production during the week.

I never fail to be amazed by the Breadth of talent that our students have, which is evident when we read through this edition of the Grammar News. The myriad experiences at Oakleigh Grammar provide students with access to learning activities which support the development of their social skills, and importantly independent and inter dependent learning skills.

Father's Day

I wish to thank our Community for their support of our Father’s Day Breakfast, and the joy of seeing our students wearing their favourite football team colours, all in support of the Maddie Riewoldt Foundation. I thank Mr Vic Rajah, Chairman of the Oakleigh Grammar Business Network, for coordinating notable guest presenters in Mark Anderson, the CEO of the Collingwood Football Club and Nick Riewoldt, former star player of the St Kilda Football Club.

School Sport

I’d like to congratulate all sporting teams that have represented Oakleigh Grammar this winter season, and in particular congratulate those teams which played in Grand Finals this week. I also thank our Head of Sport, Mr Greg Joyce and his team of coaches, who ensure that our students not only perform well, but also enjoy their sport.

Subject Selection

At this time of the year our students are involved in subject selections for the following year. It is important that our students choose subject options which reflect their aptitudes and enjoyment all the same. Much support is provided to our students via our Careers Counsellor, Heads of Faculty, subject teachers and of course, the Head of School.

NGV Excursion

I had the privilege of joining teacher, Ms Lydia Liu, and some of our students at the Chinese Cultural launch of the Terracotta Warriors at the National Gallery of Victoria. The exhibition was highly interactive for our students and was a fabulous experiential learning activity pertaining to Chinese culture and history.
