From the Principal Team

Welcome back to school after the term break. We hope all students have enjoyed some relaxation time and are refreshed and energised for the learning programs in term 4.

 

SCHOOL BUILDING/FACILITIES UPGRADES

Significant works have been completed during the holiday break to improve our working and learning environment. In reading this list you will see a huge amount of work has been completed. A big thankyou to Rick, Rob, Jack and Marilyn for coordinating and/or completing this work.

  • E Wing refurbishment including painting, new carpets and blinds
  • Admin office - new carpet
  • Display framework attached to walls in visitor area outside admin office
  • General gardening maintenance including significant pruning of trees/shrubs around the school.
  • New clocks (50) in classrooms around the school

Thanks also to Greg and his cleaning team for:

  • Steam cleaning carpets
  • Cleaning internal windows
  • Polishing floors in the stadiums
  • Cleaning up of classrooms

SUNSMART IN TERM 4 – HATS

A reminder to all that Term 4 is a Sunsmart Term. This means that a broad brimmed hat must be worn by all students when out in the yard during recess, lunchtime and when taking part in outdoor sports and PE. Please make sure you dust off the hats or purchase a new one if necessary. Bucket hats are available for sale at the General Office for $5.00 baseball caps are not permitted.

 

ASSEMBLY

A whole school assembly was held last Friday to hear our prospective school leaders for 2018 speak to the students and staff and to celebrate a number of significant achievements and successes by SHS students. Devon Hellyer presented Maths awards to a number of successful students in the recent Australian Maths competition.

 

Year 12 students Mohamad Hashimi and Sumia Saifu presented an overview of their recent multicultural camp to Barmah and introduced Neil Morris to speak to the whole school.

 

School captain nominees each gave short speeches to the assembly. The quality of both the female and male candidates was extremely high and all nominees should be very proud of their efforts. Congratulations to the following students who have been voted by their peers and staff to the following roles for 2018:

The assembly finished with a whole school draw from the School Wide Positive Behaviour tickets issued in Term 3 for students demonstrating Respect, Responsibility or Commitment. Congratulations to the following students who have each won a $30 village cinema gift card:

TERM 4 CURRICULUM DAY- PUPIL FREE DAY

The school will be closed on Monday 6th November.  This day is one of the designated pupil free days by the DEECD. Our staff will use this day for Professional Learning activities focusing on Strategic Planning and Curriculum Development.
