Junior Winter Sport

Day 1 of Junior Winter Sports started with four basketball teams representing Shepparton High School. It was a successful day with all four teams improving throughout the day. Caitey Wilton coached a new, enthusiastic year 7’s girls team. The girls tried hard however were not able to inspire a win on this occasion.

The Year 8 Boys were great all day with Tammy Goyne and Hadleigh Sirett taking the two energetic teams. The boys did well all day. Team A only lost two games but unfortunately team B failed to take a win despite their efforts..

The year 8 Girls team and coach had a good day winning all of their games to dominate and finish top of their pool after three rounds. The year 8 grand final was the last game of the afternoon with tensions running high and scores level with one minute to go.

Courtney Voumard nailed a final goal with only seconds remaining putting the girls up by a goal. It made for an interesting last five seconds! Notre Dame had many opportunities at goal however they were unable to escape the pressure that the Shepparton High girls mounted.

Our girls ended up grabbing onto a low scoring but successful win! The year 8 girls will now compete at the next level.

A delightful day was had by all with all students participating very well, also highlighting their great attitude and behaviour.

Thank you to Ms Wilton, Ms Goyne, Mr Sirett and Jasmine for helping out, it is hard to find teachers to take time out of their day. This is greatly appreciated.
