National Sorry Day

National Sorry Day is an Australia-wide observance held on May 26th each year. This day gives people the chance to come together and share the steps towards healing for the Stolen Generation, their families and communities.

The Stolen Generation, refers to Indigenous Australians who were forcibly removed from their families and communities.

It is commemorated nationally with thousands of Australians from all walks of life participating in gatherings to remember all those who have been impacted by the government policies of forcible removal.

This year we attended the Sorry Day Community Event at Monash Park Gardens. We were fortunate enough to have two of our students, Cheyanne Cooper and Raymond Scott-McGee be part of the event by laying a wreath below the Aboriginal, Torres Strait and Australian flags.

Tristan Miller, Lindsay Bryant and Jake Cooper were also part of the ceremony and danced, they also led the walk down Corio Street from the Monash Park Gardens to Latrobe.
