From the Principal Team

The end of Term 2 is drawing closer and it has been a very busy time around our school. Our VCE students have just finished their mid-year exams, the Semeseter 2 timetable has commenced,  the Production rehearsals are in full swing and teachers are finalising mid-year reports.

Semester 1 Report Distribution

Teachers have been busy writing reports over the past few weeks in order to give accurate and valuable feedback to parents and students. The reports do not only outline what students have achieved over the semester but, most importantly, suggest what your child needs to do to make further improvements over the second half of the year. It is very important that students look closely at these suggestions and incorporate them into their learning.

No matter what level we are at there is always the opportunity for further improvement and using the reports as a basis to set future goals is a great place to start.

Semester one reports will be posted to students in Years 7 to 12 on Wednesday 24th June.

Friday 26th June is the last day of Term 2 and we finish at 2.25pm.

ATTENDANCE: IT’S NOT OK TO BE AWAY:

REFLECTING ON YOUR CHILD’S ATTENDANCE AND ACADEMIC PROGRESS

It is important at certain times of the school year to reflect on your child’s school attendance and their academic progress. When you receive your child’s report or feedback at a Parent/Teacher conference and there are areas highlighted as needing improvement, please reflect on how much absences may have contributed to the situation. If there is room for improvement in classwork, a need for extra work to improve understanding or not all set work was completed, how many of these are attributed to necessary and unnecessary absences from school.

Condoned and non-condoned absences affect the continuity of your student’s education, thus adversely impacting on their progress.

When a student misses a class lesson, they lose the thread of the subject material. The result? The ability to logically think through issues and processes is seriously impaired. Imagine leaving out a chapter here or there of a book. How much sense would the book make?

Subject development is a sequential building process that relies heavily on a firm grasp of each section of material. When a part is missing the student finds it immensely difficult in learning the work and frustration can set in. This can make school life a genuine chore.

To fill in missed lessons, both teachers and students have to set aside time outside the classroom to work together. Despite the best of intentions this does not always happen and the learning process is flawed. Continuity of education class by class is all too important.

Unfortunately, in many cases your child’s under-performance can be directly related to poor attendance and some non-attendance may not be strongly opposed by you. Should you require support regarding your child’s attendance or with regard to any other issue, please contact your TA or Year Level Team Leader immediately. We all can work together to make a difference to your child’s future.

Be on time, be at school, that’s the rule!

The school production this year is ‘Platinum’. After months of planning and rehearsals, we are getting close to show-time. The show is full of colour, excitement and great entertainment. I am sure that everyone who attends the production will have a great time.

The show commences in the second week back after the holidays. Production dates are:  Friday 24th July and Saturday 25th July at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale and are available from the school. The school office is closed over the holidays so please get in now to purchase your tickets.
