Excursion to the State Library

What a fantastic excursion we had to the State Library! As we mentioned last newsletter, we were so privileged to be invited to try out the brand new Pauline Gandel Children's Quarter. We listened carefully as Mr and Mrs Gandel explained why reading is so important from a young age and we were so lucky to be a part of the brand new space! Each child was given a copy of 'The Incredible Book Eating Boy' by Oliver Jeffers. What an amazing surprise for us to take home our very own copy! Following the official opening, we broke into two groups. One group stayed in the Children's Quarter and had the opportunity to learn about how books are made and then make their own book. We also had the chance to explore some very old ones with magnifying glasses and we had to wear white cotton gloves....which was just so much fun. The other group went on a tour of the Library to look at the amazing architecture and the rare old books on display.

We had a fantastic time at the State Library. This opportunity was provided to us by the library and we are so lucky to have experienced what was one of our favourite excursions! Please note that visiting the State Library is free and you can take you family there to share and experience all the Library has to offer, including the Children's Quarter. Maybe pop in during the school holidays?

Body Safe Education

This week in our Body Safe Education session we looked at feelings. We have been looking at more than just happy and sad. We have been discussing what it looks like when people may be feeling sleepy, ill, confused, worried and so many more. We are hoping that in tapping into our feelings we may become more attuned to how others are feeling.

Next week we will start to look at our bodies and our own personal space and what it feels like when people intrude into our personal space. We will be pretending that a hoola hoop, held around our middle, shows where the 'boundary' of our personal space exists. Students will have to walk around the yard and not 'bump' into their personal bubbles. In Junior School we are endevouring to be more aware of others around us and how our body movements impact on them.

Persuasive Writing

Junior School has been trying to convince us of many different things this week. Perhaps KPS needs a swimming pool? Perhaps eating lollies for breakfast is a good idea? Apparently we need more free dress days. Students have been coming up with plenty of reasons to persuade this week and we have noticed some very well sharpened negotiating skills among the group! To help your child's learning, have some discussions at home about favourite things or choices between two things. Encourage your child to have a reason and support for that reason. We hope you all have some fun conversations!
