Literacy in Foudation

Foundation have been absolute super stars during our literacy sessions each day!! We have been lots of new routines, which includes: how we can read both independently or with a partner, what happens during reading groups, how to sit at our table ready for writing and much more. We have started thinking about how we can use our Schema (prior knowledge) to make connections to ourselves when we are reading. In writing, we have been practicing how we hold our pencil correctly and having our best go at writing some letter and words.

Each student now has a letter formation sheet in their take home bags for home practice. I encourage the students to practice saying the letter names/sounds out loud and writing them during the week.

Numeracy in Foundation

Foundation students have been practicing counting forwards and backwards from 0 to 10! We have starting learning how to use a number line to find numbers that are before and after. In class we worked together to create a BIG number line and then we had a go with a partner.

PMP

Last week we had our first PMP (perceptual motor program) session for the term! PMP is a movement-based program which helps younger students improve their eye/hand and eye/foot coordination, fitness, balance, locomotion and eye-tracking skills.

During Term 1, our PMP sessions will be held fortnightly on a Friday. Moving into Term 2, we will be running PMP weekly.
