Design and Technology Week 2017

October 16 to 20 was the inaugural Design and Technology Week at LHS and we celebrated with fun and games.

Starting each day with quiz questions, students showed off their knowledge of Australian inventions to win canteen vouchers.

They also signed up for lunchtime design challenges: a competition to build the furthest flying paper plane and a marshmallow tower competition that attracted ten sticky teams of enthusiastic eaters… sorry, builders!

Our champion paper plane designer was Selina Fullerton of 7.48.  Her plane made it 10 metres (and would have gone further if it hadn’t decided to gracefully veer to the right!).

Runner-up was Julian Styles, also of 7.48.

The marshmallow tower building was close, but first prize,  by only half a centimetre was taken out by “The Fabulous 5”; Josh, Campbell, Xander, Ben and Joaquin Greer.

Next came Team 7;  Keely, Emily and Val, and in third place,  again by 0.5 cm, former champions “The Cheesy Turtles”; Daniel, Thomas, Jarrad, Oscar and Jacob.

Congratulations to all participants, even those who were only in it for the marshmallows!
