Year 12 Festivities Day
The last day for our Year 12 students is fast approaching. Next Tuesday is the last day of classes. The day will begin with a breakfast for students and teachers.
The following day is Festivities Day where the students dress up and parade for the whole student body. We look forward to a great day to farewell our class of 2017.
Year 12 VCAA Exams
The first exam begins on November 1 - the last exam is November 24.
Year Level Coordinators have briefed the students on the expectations and the strict VCAA rules that govern the examination period.
We ask all students to ensure that they comply with the rules to ensure a smooth examination period.
October Arts Festival
The LHS October Arts Festival is currently on with a display of student work in the Performing Arts Centre.
The standard of work is extremely high from across the year levels. There will be prizes for the best art works in a number of categories as voted by staff and students. Parents and friends are welcome to view the works.
Congratulations to Head of Arts Sarah Hardy, Assistant Head of Arts Cathy Young, the Arts staff and students for a wonderful display.
VCAL 2018
Next Thursday and Friday we will be holding interviews for all 2018 VCAL students to ensure everyone is aware of the expectation and structure of the program.
Invitations will be sent to students and parents very soon. We look forward to meeting with all concerned.
The Local Learning and Employment Network representative will be involved in the discussions to assist with work placements.
Every Day Counts
Attending school every day is vital for students of all ages to fully achieve.
We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begins with students coming to school each and every day.
Missing school can have a major impact on a child’s future – a student missing one day a fortnight will miss four full weeks by the end of the year.
There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.
Regular attendance is valued at Lilydale High School. Students who attend regularly give themselves the best opportunity to achieve academically by engaging fully in their learning and foster and maintain friendships.
I ask all parents/guardians to encourage regular attendance for your child/children to ensure every chance for success.
Mobile Phone Policy
Over the years we have maintained the 'Mobile Phone Policy' that bans the use of phones whilst at school. Our focus is on learning and social interactions without the use of phones.
In the case of emergencies, staff must be able to discharge their duty of care according to department guidelines i.e; 'Whilst students are at school they are in the care of school staff, when there is an issue or emergency at school it is incumbent upon staff to be able to deal with it.'
This is sometimes difficult when students directly contact parents rather than speaking with Co-ordinators who are always happy to call parents for the student concerned.
Please don’t encourage your child to contact you during school hours – any student who is in need of assistance for any reason, must report to the Sub School Offices. In the case of medical issues, students must report to Sick Bay.
Thank you for your assistance with this in advance.
