All students are invited to a BREAKFAST in the VCE Study Hall on Tuesday 24 October as we celebrate the last day of classes. Come and join us for pancakes and fruit. It's a great way to start the day before the big footy game at lunch!
If you have not purchased tickets for the Valedictory Dinner, the cut off for payments is Tuesday 31 October. Don’t miss this spectacular evening.
All students completing a Unit 3 + 4 subject were given a copy of the VCAA examination navigator, which stipulates the timetable, rules and information about acceptable equipment.
Copies are also available online by clicking the link below.
Order forms for Year 12 Jerseys for 2018 have been distributed through Home Groups last week. If you have not received one, please collect one from VCE Coordinators Office.
Despite the date stated on the form, the cut off is Wednesday 8 November. All orders are done solely through Lowes at Lilydale Marketplace and not the school. If you do not complete your order by the cut off date you may not be able to purchase a jersey at all.
If you are interested in applying for Year 12 or School Captain positions next year, application forms can be obtained from VCE Coordinators Office. These are due back by Friday 27 October.
2018 Year 12 Retreat - If you have a preference on who you will share a room with on Year 12 retreat, please also advice the VCE Coordinators in written form.
All Year 11 students will be sitting examinations in the week of Monday 13 November.
Regardless of whether students are continuing their studies next year or not, all students will be undertaking these exams.
Students who do not complete an exam, may not achieve a ‘Satisfactory’ outcome in that subject.
It’s been a very eventful few weeks for the VCE cohort with 3/4 subjects finishing their content for the year, meaning the last few SAC’s for each class which everyone is very excited to see the end of.
We have not only been busily preparing for our last assessment pieces but also working on exam revision, with visits from Ross Huggard the English whiz, who some say is even more enthusiastic than Mr Taylor about English!
The VCE network masterclasses and Connect Education lectures have also been invaluable to our preparation.
However, it is not all stress and misery for the Year 12’s, whom are edging ever closer to their last ever day of school.
There is an electric buzz around the year level, with widespread confidence of a win in the teachers vs student footy game on our last day. Rumours have it that the teachers are worried, and have been training at a moderate intensity for 20 minutes, 3 times a week for at least 6 weeks to obtain some aerobic gains in preparation. The hot tip is students by 5 points!
Also as a cohort, we would like to congratulate Harry Nolan for getting invited to the state testing combine for AFL. We are all wishing him the best in his prospects for the upcoming AFL draft - Eastern Rangers.
Hope everyone had a productive study break and enjoyed some quality ‘Tiger Time’. We wish everyone the very best in the upcoming exam period.
Will Pleming
Year 12 Captain
Congratulations to Indiana Greer (11.M2) who was awarded 2nd prize for her image titled ‘The Boxer’ in the Deakin University Capture Photography Prize competition.
The competition is open to all VCE students and emerging artists aged 17-25.
The 12 finalists' artworks were printed and are being displayed in an exhibition at Deakin’s Geelong Waterfront campus.
Improved Performance Time (IPT)
All VCE students have study periods together on Tuesdays & Thursdays Periods 5-6 and Friday Period 6.
SACs, Examinations, Level assemblies, guest speakers and other activities are held during this time to minimise class disruption.
If there are no relevant activities for your child during this time, they are free to go home to study. However, students are more than welcome to stay at school and study.
VCE SAC's
A reminder that if your child misses a School Assessed Coursework (SAC) they must get a medical certificate to enable them to sit the SAC in the next available IPT time slot.
Students will not be granted SAC redemption unless they have a medical certificate or it is a school-approved absence. If there are extenuating circumstances please let us know and we will make a decision based on the VCAA guidelines.
Once a student has been approved for SAC redemption, they will be required to sit the SAC the next available time slot.
The times for SACs are:
Monday - SAC Redemption 3 pm - 4.30 pm
Tuesday - Periods 5 and 6
Thursday - Periods 5 and 6
Friday - Period 6 (one period SAC only)
VCE Attendance
It is a requirement at Lilydale High School that students attend all timetabled classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised.
If students have reached their limit for absences from class there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed. Students can speak to their Year Level Coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon study periods, or after school.
Furthermore, it is a requirement that students attend Home Group, even if they have Study periods, Periods 1 and 2.
Student Absences
Any absences from school must be parent/guardian approved – you can do this through a signed note or you can approve your child’s absences via the 'Parent Approval' button on Compass.
If you have forgotten the parent Compass username and password, please contact Jenny McLean in the Senior School Office.
VCE students and cars
Some students will acquire a car and licence whilst at school. Students must inform the VCE Coordinators of their licence plate numbers and car make and colour.
PARKING is available in the Stadium Car Park.
NO DRIVER STUDENT MAY TAKE OUT ANOTHER STUDENT IN THEIR CAR DURING SCHOOL HOURS.
Students may obtain their parents’ permission to be driven to and from school in another student’s car. A written note from both students’ parents must be given to the VCE Coordinators before driving another student or siblings.
