Drive In Movie
By Kirsty Meese (Team Kinder)
It all started two weeks ago...
First there was the stack of boxes in the Kinder foyer, then Mrs O'Brien disappeared from the Discovery Centre to go and collect resources and I knew that it must be time for "Kinder Box Car Making" and "The Kinder Drive In Movie".
There was much excitement among the Kinder children as we figured whose box was whose and how we were going to carry them all up to the Discovery Centre, but the Kinder children were confident that they were strong and would be able to each carry their own box - and they did! Once we made it to the Discovery Centre, it was all stations go in the "Maker Space" as children began to affix wheels, seats, wing mirrors, steering wheels, rocket booster and multitude of other imaginative ideas to turn their boxes into cars. Once the box cars were complete we drove them back to Kinder and parked them in the "Prestige Multi Story Car Park" aka the Kinder store room for the week.
From Thursday to Thursday can be a long time in Kinder world and the Kinder children often wanted to check that their car was ok, or add a few more finishing touches. Then finally it was Thursday again! With very safe driving, giggles and squeals we drove the box cars back up to the Discovery Centre and met Mrs O'Brien in her every own box car and parked ourselves on the story mat, where we listened to a story aptly picked called "Box Cars". After our story we could barely contain our excitement as it was finally time to drive to the Media Lounge, pick up our popcorn, park our cars and settle in for our drive-in-movie "Lost & Found".

3/4 Poverty Day
Yesterday our Year 3/4 students got to experience what it is like to live in a community affected by poverty. In the BHCS rice fields, students sorted brown rice from white rice - in complete silence. This rice was then cooked and served plain to students for lunch.
At lunch time, students were not allowed to use play equipment. Instead, students made their own toys out of materials such as paper, plastic and bark. They were incredibly creative, constructing items such as balls, chatterboxes, toy cars and paper aeroplanes.
We hope today's activities encouraged students to consider the bigger picture. Many questions were asked, such as "how does the food we eat actually get to our supermarkets?". Today was a wonderful learning experience for our 3/4 students - thank you to all involved in organising it!
