International Primary Students Report

Wow, what a start to Term 4! We have welcomed 4 new students to the PLC already this term. That brings our numbers to 13! We have been busy learning about animals this term, specifically Australian animals, Farm animals and Zoo animals. We are planning a trip to the zoo in November.

We have also been learning the English words for our emotions, weighing objects to find out which one is heavy and which one is light, more throwing and catching in PE, as well as exploring the different reading and maths programs on the computers. We have excitedly started STOMP lessons with our mainstream classes. We can’t wait for the end of year concert in December!

Carwatha's newly-established Intensive English Language Centre has welcomed five new students this term:

Xu is from China. He joins a number of other student at our school hailing from Shenyang, the industrial capital of the Liaoning province in northeast China. I actually taught there for 6 months some years ago. It's hot and sunny in summer, but doesn't get much above zero in the winter.

Bruce is 16 and will be commencing V1 next year. He's living with one of our friendly homestay families who do great work helping their new family members settle in to life in Australia.

Cathy is Chinese and one day wishes to live in Tokyo. It's her favourite city, although she's never lived there.

Tom just joined us on Wednesday and is living in Australia with his mother. He's already settled in and has made friends with Liam and Xi Xi, who've been in the ELC since June.

Phirawath comes from Cambodia. He cooked for the first time this week (not including turning on the rice cooker and frying an egg). He made some awesome cupcakes which were later delivered to our lovely office staff and primary teachers for a lunchtime snack.

This term the ELC is studying a number of topics to prepare for the mainstream, including:

World Geography

Australian Federal Parliament

Classification of Vertebrates

Community

Water Safety

EAL English

But, of course, we all know what they most look forward to... our fortnightly cooking class! And who wouldn't? It's awesome! This term, as always, we're cooking up a range of western dishes, such as, pizza, hamburgers and even scones.

Make sure you say 'hello' to the new faces on campus.
