Arbury Park Camp

Once again, we should all be very proud of our Year 4/5 students who participated in last week’s camp. The feedback from all staff at the campsite was excellent. Our children were polite, respectful and caring. On a personal note, I would like to acknowledge the work that our staff put in to make the camp so successful. The classroom teachers, NIT teachers, our Counsellor Karen Smith (who stayed for all 4 nights), Bob Bowden for all his organisation of the campsite, buses, notes etc and our front office staff for the collection of money and medical notes.Well done to everyone!!!

Traffic & Car Parking

It is not unusual that traffic around the school is congested during drop-off and pick-up times. However, regardless of this, we need to ensure that our children are safe when entering or leaving the school. There are ways that we can reduce the bottlenecks if some simple steps are followed:

  1. Abide by all the signage around the school
  2. Kiss and Drop zones have a maximum of 3 minutes standing time and drivers need to remain in cars
  3. Traffic should flow in an anti-clockwise direction around the school -                                                     eg. Fletcher Rd              Junction St                  Lincoln St
  4. Do not stop in the middle of roads to pick up / drop off children

I cannot stress enough the importance of always being vigilant and respectful of others when dropping off or picking up children.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Mobil Grant

I am very pleased to announce that we were successful in gaining a Mobil Bright Future Grant totalling $4500.

The money has been used to purchase STEM resources including Ozobots, Blubots  & Makey Makey.

Classes will commence using these resources next term.

Thank you to Bob Bowden for his successful application.

I would also like to acknowledge Mobil for their on-going support. This is the 4th year we have successfully received this grant.

Interviews/Reports

I would like to thank all the parents/families that have attended the mid-year interviews over the past week. The teachers have worked hard to prepare for these meetings in order to provide families with up to date accurate information in regards to their children’s learning.

Please continue to work closely with the classroom teachers in order that we can maximise your child’s learning.

Change of Title

The new title of Student Wellbeing Leader will replace all titles currently in use for school-based counsellors in primary and secondary schools.

The change in title has been the result of feedback from a range of key stakeholders including school-based counsellors (primary and secondary), schools, parents, members of the public, professional associations, peak committees and senior leadership.  The key themes of the feedback have included:

  • title does not reflect the role and work
  • misleading perceptions that staff have counselling qualifications
  • expectations that staff provide a professional counselling and therapeutic service to students and families

The services provided by school-based counsellors are highly valued in assisting schools to support the wellbeing and positive engagement of children and young people.  The new title better reflects this service.

There will be no change to the role, allocation model, qualifications or conditions of school-based counsellors.

3D Printing

Largs Bay School is one of only 49 schools state-wide that are a part of a 3D Printing Trial. Our Year 1 and Year 6/7 students have been involved in creating designs via the Maker's Empire program and this culminated in a showcase at Grange Primary recently. The showcase was attended by our Education Minister Susan Close and out Year 1 representatives were exemplary ambassadors for the school.
