Principal's Report

From the Principal

The very good start to the school year has continued, with students settling in to their studies positively and productively.

Our Preps are now attending full time and have all settled in very well.  Many of our new parents attended a special morning tea on the prep students’ first full day last week.   We also enjoyed meeting our Year 7 parents at our “Meet and Greet” and iPad distribution evening this week.

At the close of nominations for School Council, the number of nominations for both parent and DET representatives equalled the number of vacancies.  I am pleased to announce that Michelle Coxhill, Ann Copley, Monique Hamilton, Garrie Rushby and Sam Perera have been elected as parent representatives.  Sheila Horn and Pam Naylor have been elected as DET representatives.   Their term of office will commence in March.  Thank you to all of these people for their willingness to contribute to the school through School Council.

In our last newsletter, we announced the Primary and Secondary College Captains. It is my pleasure this week to announce the rest of our Primary and Secondary leaders.  They are all to be congratulated for being appointed to these important roles. Secondary student leaders were presented with their blazers and badges at an assembly this week and primary leaders received their badges last week.

Last week we welcomed some of our high achieving 2015 Year 12 students to a special secondary assembly. The following students were acknowledged for their outstanding results: William Zhang, whose ATAR of 98 made him our dux for 2015, Moneta Ven, Alex Chronopoulos Fidela Kurniawan, Christina Dang, Tony Thai and Andrew Bui. Those who were able to attend the assembly spoke to our current students about what led them to complete VCE successfully.  The students were impressive and we are proud of them and their efforts.  Many of our high achievers are about to embark on a new journey of learning in a variety of university courses and career paths.  We wish them well and feel honoured to have them as part of Carwatha College’s P-12 community

Sometime in the next couple of weeks we will be conducting a practice evacuation drill in the school. Students may come home and talk about this.

Our Annual Swimming Carnival, involving students from Years 5 to 12, will be held next Tuesday, February 23rd at Oakleigh Recreation Centre. Parents are welcome to attend.

I would like to remind parents that Friday, March 11th is a pupil free day.  Staff will be involved in professional learning on that day.  Students are not required at school.
