Year 10 Future Directions Week

The Year 10 cohort, from the 10th to 13th of March, embarked on a journey of personal discovery. Throughout the span of a week, all Year 10 students were involved in a series of activities, discussions, and presentations that seek to build knowledge of their environment, with specific emphasis on employment strategies as well as techniques that hone our skills in the workforce (teamwork, cooperation).

Our week involved many substantially factual presentations of ‘Dare to Change the World’, ‘First impressions’ and ‘Party safe,’ which were held at various times throughout the week. These presentations were unabated in their resolve to provide us with information to prepare us for the future, as young women. The presentations were accompanied by other activities which included a mini Olympics, where groups formed in homerooms would compete against each other in small events, putting into practice the skills and attributes which we were encouraged to acknowledge and develop (with interest in employ-ability). One of the significant activities which was completed was the Morrisby Profiling test. This test is used to give accurate suggestions as to which line one should take, which path one should travel on, specific to their interests as well as verbal, mechanical, spatial, abstract, and numerical ability. Our gratifying and fulfilling week ended with a small liturgy embracing diversity and the miscellany of languages, where Year 10 students recited prayers in their own, unique tongue. To our disappointment, our Personal Development week ended much too soon, but the invaluable information we received in regard to work, ourselves and the future, proved to be an indispensable aspect of learning and character growth.

VCAL Excursion

On Friday the 6 March, the Year 11 and 12 VCAL Students went on an excursion to the city. We visited SYM FM, and we did an amazing race. SYN FM was in the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). The SYN FM excursion focused on radio podcasts and learning all about how to make one. All the girls had to go in groups and choose a topic they wanted to talk about. We were given a sheet of paper to plan our radio session. We planned and practiced until we went into the actual room. Once it was our turn, we presented the radio segment with professional equipment which was very interesting.

We liked the SYN FM experience because it was something different and we got to make our own podcasts. Every student should have the opportunity to go to SYN FM because it is an extraordinary experience to be behind the scenes at a radio station to see how it works. We were very lucky to be able to have this.
