Curriculum
Last week in Literacy students learnt about syllables. They enjoyed identifying how many syllables were in words in their books, objects around the classroom and their name. Students were also very excited to learn the ‘King of the Codes’ (‘ough’). We have no doubt there will be some students who have been singing the very catchy ‘King of the Codes’ song at home!
In Maths we continued our focus on place value, in particular representing numbers using different concrete materials and partitioning using tens and ones.
We also completed our Guided Inquiry unit, with students designing their own Sustainability poster. Their poster needed to include one action which they could do to help sustain our environment. Keep your eyes out for these very creative posters in your child’s portfolio.
Special Activities
We finished up a very busy week with a Buddies session on Friday afternoon. Students loved the opportunity to use the iPad app ‘Toontastic’ to create their own movies.
Additional News
On Wednesday afternoon, student reports will be available on Sentral. Portfolios will also be sent home to accompany the reports. Similarly to Term 1, please take the time to go through the portfolios with your child and write a brief reflection with them prior to returning it to school in Term 3. You will have an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with their class teacher in Week Two next term during a Three-way conference. This is similar to the parent/teacher interviews which were held at the start of the year, however this time all students will be required to attend and participate in their conference.
