Independence Centre

Curriculum
One week to go – we can’t believe it! We are officially half way through our swimming program and congratulate students for showing responsibility and independence when travelling to and from the pool. Students who are not participating in the swimming program have been learning about Water Safety back at school. They have designed flags and made videos to help people understand how to be safe around water!
Last week in Maths we experimented with different multiplication formulas, finding which one suited us best and why. We also continued our problem solving focus, using different strategies to work towards a range of solutions. This focus will continue through the last week of term.
In Reading, we revisited some of the reading skills we have practised this term and displayed our understanding of them in a portfolio task. Look out for these on Seesaw – you might be able to discuss them at home!
Our Writing has been incorporated into our Guided Inquiry unit as we created ‘Fact Files’ to match our endangered animal dioramas. Students began collecting and reorganising facts into a succinct summary of their animal. They then used this information to begin designing and constructing the habitat of that animal in their box! We will continue working on these presentations this week. Students are welcome to bring items from home to include in their projects. We would love to share our creations with you and invite you to come in at 3:00 on Thursday afternoon to see student work on display.
