Leadership Centre

Curriculum
We can hardly believe that this is our final week of Term Two and are celebrating many achievements from the last 9 weeks. One of our major focuses for the term has been through our Youth Leadership Course where students have demonstrated persistence, love of learning and teamwork to develop their debating skills. This week, we will be showcasing all that we have learnt in our Grand Finale. It will be completely student led as students organise the meeting, provide feedback to one another, chair the debate and of course, compete. Thank you to Mrs De Geest for teaching us many new skills.
It has been impressive to see the positive attitude and polite manners of our students as they attend the Swimming Program. They have consistently demonstrated responsibility and initiative to make sure that they get as much as possible out of each lesson. There is plenty of excitement brewing for our final fun day on Thursday.
In Maths, we have continued investigating Patterns and Algebra through Number Talks and a range of visual activities. It has been fantastic to see students having ‘lightbulb’ moments as they use mathematical vocabulary to describe how patterns are growing and justifying what they see with their peers.
In Reading, we have had the opportunity to delve into short texts and take the time to unpack their meaning through comprehension tasks. A specific focus has been placed on using evidence from the text to support our reasoning and to expand on this through identifying the author’s purpose. It has been a great challenge to extend our Reading skills by persevering with one text to find as much information as possible.
One of the highlights of the week has been the preparation for our Guided Inquiry ‘Travel Expo’.
Students have worked with a partner to investigate a country and put together a detailed brochure and expo table to highlight all that they have found out about the location. Within our topic of ‘Sustainability’, students have been studying the geographical, economical and social elements of what it means to be a sustainable country. We are looking forward to presenting our final projects on Thursday.
Last week the 5/6 students participated in a Q&A Student Forum which looked at what we are currently doing well and how the school can be improved as part of our school review. Students asked questions to a panel consisting of teachers, students and parents. This was a valuable session that heavily involved student voice!
Have a fantastic holiday,
Mr Andrew Shaw, Miss Ros Walker, Miss Emily Glen and Mrs Emily Baker
