Programs - Sport

Sport returned to St Johns in Term 1 after a restricted few terms due to covid. And it was great to see students keen to get involved and represent their house in activities or their school in weekly SIS sport.

This term included the House Aquatics Carnival held on March 1st at Doveton Pool in the Park. Many students completing laps of freestyle, backstroke or breaststroke. It was a wonderful day with a great atmosphere and a big thankyou to all those involved in the day. Well done to Columba house for winning the Aquatics championship. We hope these students will continue to further their swimming skills in the SIS Swimming Carnival which will be held early in Term 2. Training has already commenced for the swim team. Students from all year levels have been getting up early for training at 6:45am on Tuesdays or staying later on Thursdays for afternoon swims at Dandenong Oasis. We wish these swimmers all the best for SIS.

SIS Weekly sport also returned and we were able to play a couple of games in the following sports: Senior Boys Soccer (coached by Mr Paul Boswell), Senior Girls Soccer (Ms Marina Kintzel), Senior Boys Indoor Cricket (Mr Mark Alexander) and Intermediate Girls Volleyball (Ms Anna Nguyen). The training and hard work was a pay off, with St Johns providing many wins and happy faces within these sports. Well done to all involved.

Next term will be jammed back with sporting opportunities including the House Athletics in week 2, with all students signing up for particular events. Cross Country will also be held early Term 2 which will allow students to really show off their running skills. The following SIS Weekly sports will also be available and I encourage all students to put their names forward to participate and get involved:

Junior Mixed Table Tennis (Ms Teagan Yates), Junior Boys Soccer (Mr Eamonn Farrelly), Junior Girls Netball (Ms Thea Delfos), Junior Girls Soccer (Ms Marina Kintzel), Junior Boys Volleyball (Mr Nigel Adkin), Intermediate Girls AFL (Ms Andrea Newman), Intermediate Boys Volleyball (Mr Mark Alexander) and Senior Boys AFL (Mr Andrew Dias and Mr Tyler Halls-Ferguson). Good Luck to you all
