VCE Theatre Studies Excursion
For our VCE theatre studies excursion, we had gone to Melbourne CBD and watched the musical Fun Home. It was an incredible play, which discusses family trauma and queerness in a specific way that rings true. Though I can’t comment on it as an adaptation of the graphic novel by Alice Bechdel, titled the same, I can say that from both the pre-show and post-show Q&A we stayed for, that both the cast and production crew treated the material with respect and gave clear, well-thought responses.
It’s a play about sensitive matters, and a non-descript amount of tears were shed during the duration. The climax of the show had personally left me in awe as we see the culmination of young Alice Bechdel’s experiences – all leading to that final moment when her father kills himself and she struggles through the grief.
It was a wonderful excursion. I think I’d speak for the class when I say we all enjoyed the opportunity to watch this play. It is a welcomed portion of the curriculum.

Interhouse Theatre Sports
This week was finals week for Interhouse Theatre Sports! After 2 thrilling qualifying rounds last week, both Griffin and Phoenix came out on top and were to face off against each other in the Grand Finale, while Garuda and Pegasus were to face off for 3rd place. They both fought their hardest, but in the end, Pegasus came out on top winning 3rd Place! Then it was time for the Grand Finale between Griffin and Phoenix, and they were ready. Ultimately it was Griffin’s Spectacular performances that landed them 1st Place in 2022’s Interhouse Theatre Sports Competition! A huge thanks to Ms Faulkner, Ms Tchantcho, Ms Denman, Dr Schroor, Mr Woon & Mr Clark for judging these competitions.

Make a Scene Incursion
On March 17, the Year 9 and Year 10 theatre classes got together for a workshop called "Commedia Dell'Atre" ran by Rosa Campaganor. This workshop was run to focus on the Italian portrayal of comedy. Ms. Campaganor taught us the many conventions of comedy and involved the students in making them play multiple roles and using olden-day, Italian comedy masks. The highlight of this workshop was seeing everyone be confident and break from their moulds. This workshop taught students not only to entertain the audience by to also to be entertained by yourself and what you show to the audience. This workshop showed me how valuable Theatre Studies is and how much the experience can teach you, in more ways than one.
