Teaching and Learning

It's a Wrap!

Last week our students enjoyed  healthy wrap for lunch. Students were able choose their filling from a range of donated healthy foods. We plan to prepare, cook and consume (because after all, that is the fun part) a range of foods for lunch and snacks over the course of this year.

Prep/One/Two News from Mrs Lightburn

Below are some lovely stories written by Mia ,Lucian and Skylar.

Year Four/Five/Six News from Mr Collins

Below (for your reading pleasure)  are recounts written by the students...

Swimming 2022

A reminder that our Year 4/5/6 students will attend the cluster swimming sports tomorrow (Friday) in Rochester. Hayden, Bree and Mez will be driving the students, with Lisa meeting them there. Parents are most welcome to attend as spectators but must use the QR code to check in and be at least double vaccinated. If you are intending on transporting your own child to and from the event, please let Hayden know, so we are not waiting for them at school before we leave.

Our annual Swimming and Water Safety Program for our Year P-6 students began on Tuesday afternoon and will continue for the next three weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A reminder that students should bring a towel, their bathers, a change of underwear if they are wearing some under their swim shorts, goggles/earplugs/swim-cap (optional if required by your child). Any families who are choosing to pick up their child from the pool are asked to let us know and to be there by 2.55 pm so we can load the bus and return to school.

Outdoor Education

We have been working on renewing our vegetable garden. Students have been busy weeding, turning over soil, fertilising and preparing for some planting. Some student have taken it all so seriously that they are choosing to spend part of their lunch break as a work crew. How lovely that they have such school pride and fantastic work ethic!  We have also been having some fun with some initiative games!

Fitness

Did you know that each morning all year levels participate in Fitness activities?

These sessions go for about 20 minutes and make use of our grounds as well as the stadium. Our students are able to build their stamina, flexibility, balance and sports skills as well as have fun all working together and supporting each other. What a great way to begin each day.

Pancake Tuesday

On Tuesday it was Shrove Tuesday. The students cooked pancakes on this day and learned a little about the history and significance of this day, some about the process of making pancakes and a lot about how yummy pancakes are!  Sophia and Isabell wrote these procedural texts about our cooking adventure.

As you can see from the pictures below, we had a great time making, cooking and eating our pancakes.

Station Visit

Last week we visited the future site of the new Raywood Train Station. We were given a tour of the current works and shown how the site has been set up. We were all amazed by the way the concrete blocks will fit together to form the new platform.

Afternoon's with Miss Coffey

Wednesdays from 12-1pm are a hive of activity in the 4-6 classroom with Mr Collins’ “Mega Mathematicians” honing their skills with their recall speed and accuracy with Times Tables & the addition of 1 digit & 2 digit numbers. Some of the strategies we’ve discussed & focused upon improving include;

* 10 & a number (10 +8, 9+70 etc.)

* 9 & a number (9+7, 19+8 etc.)

* Tens Friends (8+2=10, 6+4=10 etc.)

* Doubles to 24 (7+7, 12+12 etc.)

* Near Double (6+7, 4+5 etc.)

There are many simple games (using items such as dice, cards & Uno Cards) that the students can share with you…. if you’re up for the challenge!
