Freeman House (Green): Alana Harper

My name is Alana Harper and I am the Freeman House Leader. I have been at MFG since 2017, teaching Science and Biology. I am a lover of books and all things science. I enjoy random facts and silly stories, many of which I share in my classes. Over my time at MFG I have been fortunate to work with a range of amazing students and in 2022 I am lucky enough to have some of those students on the Freeman Student Leadership team. I’m looking forward to working with this team and the rest of the Freeman House to once again, win the house trophies, foster our MFG Traits and to build the connection and community within Freeman house.

Hi Everyone, I’m lucky enough to be the Lipson House Leader for 2022! I’m really excited about my new role, as this is my first year within a Student Management position. I’ve loved my last 5 years teaching Maths at MFG, and am particularly passionate about shifting ‘mindset in maths’ within the MFG community.

Outside of school, I love going to the beach with my two rescue dogs – Rosie the Blue Heeler and Milo the Labradoodle. They are both very cheeky and love playing in the water and with other dogs. I also play cricket and spend a lot of time in the field bowling medium pacers down the pitch. I get super excited when I get a wicket! Any other spare time I get, I love spending in the garden.

I really am looking forward to this new challenge and working with all of the wonderful Lipson students.

Gilmore House (Blue): Amy Devereaux

Hello Everyone, I am Amy Devereaux and I am the Gilmore House Leader.

This is my second year at Matthew Flinders. I currently teach years 7,8,10 and 12 Maths. Prior to this I have worked in schools at Ballarat and Euroa for my other 7 years of teaching. In the past I have completed a similar House Leadership role with years 7,9 and 11’s and enjoy working with young people to be successful at school, whatever this may look like for them individually.

When I am not teaching I enjoy exercise, finding great Netflix series and traveling overseas (when this is possible). I have a golden Labrador named Marley who is very cheeky and keeps me company on my beach walks.

I am very excited to be working with and getting to know not just the students in my class but all Gilmore students in 2022.

Beachley House (Gold): Kylie McMillan

I commenced teaching in 1998 (gosh that sounds so long ago now!) and have been teaching at MFG for the past 14 years. I came to MFG as a Year Level Student Manager in 2008 and worked with years 8 & 9 for a few years before having a few children of my own and a few short stints of family leave.  After returning to work when my third baby was 6 months old I took on the role of VCAL Leader which I enjoyed very much. And as if my life wasn’t busy enough, a couple of years later I became the Beachley House Leader and slipped right back into the student management role that I love so much. Combined with this, I am also the Leader of Transition at MFG. I am a Phys Ed and Health teacher and when I was on family leave with baby number three I commenced further study in Home Economics and have added Food Technology to my teaching repertoire. I have also taught Literacy, Work Related Skills and Personal Development Skills as part of the VCAL program over the past 8 years.

I don’t have a great deal of time to myself outside of work hours but when I do I like to exercise, dance, get creative in the kitchen or read a good book.

I am looking forward to continuing my work with the Beachley students and can’t wait to work with the new year 7 students in 2022!
