Student achievement : Top Arts

Congratulations to Milla Freeman : Finalist for Top Arts 2022

Milla Freeman was one of Northcote High School's Studio Arts stars of 2021, achieving brilliant results throughout the year for her folio of work and final pieces. To cap off a stunning year, Milla got shortlisted for the prestigious NGV Top Arts Program for 2022 and made the final selection earlier this year.

Milla painted a series of portraits of her close friends and family onto book covers, using a lovely balance of delicate brush strokes with looser, unfinished areas, paying close attention to shadows and light for realism and exploring colours that offered the viewer an insight into the nature of her subjects.  One of Milla's subjects, Molly McGuiness (pictured below), was also shortlisted for Top Arts, from our very talented 2021 Studio Arts cohort.

Our Principal Chris Jones attended the opening night at the NGV’s Ian Potter Centre on Wednesday 16 March, meeting Milla and her proud parents in person and viewing the incredible works on display.

Visitors to the Top Arts exhibition can see the concerns and passions of young artists from schools all over Victoria, showcasing a diverse range of artworks across multiple mediums. The exhibition is on at the Ian Potter Centre at the NGV Australia, Fed Square from 17 March to 24 July 2022.
