Careers Day success!

As we head into the final weeks of Term One, things are really starting to get hectic in the Careers office!

The Year 10 Careers Day was a huge success today. We are really appreciative of the contribution of our presenters, who volunteered their time to come in and discuss their career journey with students. We are very fortunate to have such a breadth of experience within the school community.  Although we did have some presenters unfortunately forced to withdraw at the last minute due to Covid, everyone rolled with the challenges and made the most of the opportunity to chat all things careers.

Year 10 Work Experience - deadline approaching

Our Year 10 students are particularly busy, with the Careers Day today, and the work they are doing in preparing for our Work Experience program in May.  With course and subject selection taking place in late term two, it is important for students to be reflecting on their journey to date and thinking about future pathways.

Students have just a couple more weeks s to arrange their placement for May, and all the accompanying paperwork.

Students should speak to their Connect teacher as their first point of contact in organising their placement and completing their OHS and forms.

Placement and all documentation due to be completed by the end of Term 1.

Further instructions and information can be found at Compass> School Documentation> Careers and Pathways> Work Experience & OHS

Can you assist with our real industry job interview program in October?

The 2022 Real Industry Job Interviews (RIJI) program is a work readiness program that helps students develop good job search, resume writing and interviewing skills. The program is delivered in Year 10 through a series of guided lessons. It concludes in a face-to-face mock interview with a local volunteer interviewer during regional RIJI events.

The Local Learning and Employment Network are looking for volunteer interviewers to assist in interviewing our students on Tuesday October 18th and Thursday October 20th at the Darebin Arts Centre.  Your role as a volunteer interviewer:

  • Volunteers will be provided with the resume and job description for up to 11 students and some questions to help navigate the interview.
  • Interview events run approx. from 9 am to 3 pm.
  • You will provide verbal and written feedback on students’ interview performance.

We would love you to  Register to become a volunteer interviewer at either one or more of the following events.  Please register for the events on October 18 or 20 as these are the ones that our students are participating in!
