Year 5 News

Term 3 has come to an end. We thank all our families for their support over the past term. We hope you enjoy your Spring break! Please stay tuned to Compass as Mr Meissner will post the Term 4 Overview shortly.

Students have worked very hard during term 3. Here are some highlights that students wanted to share in the newsletter.

Souzi – I have enjoying reading this term. We have been learning to critique things like games and books. We have been writing our journal entries. Our teacher has got some diaries for us to write our good copies in. In maths, I have enjoyed learning different ways to solve division. My favourite strategy is the equal grouping strategy.

Carol – In school, our classroom teacher has been teaching us lots of strategies to solve multiplication and division problems. We use Number Talks to go over older things we have learned, like addition and subtraction. In PBL, we have been in groups. We all have got a say in what we do in our projects. Our teacher focuses a lot on team work and collaboration in these projects. We have brought a lot of the materials from home and that has made it lots of fun.

Tanesha – In division, one of the best strategies I have learned is the halving and halving strategy and the equal groups strategy. In PBL, my group has been learning about tsunamis. We made this house to see if it would survive a tsunami. We put rocks in the base to keep it stable. In real life, it wouldn’t be rocks, it would be concrete or something heavy. In writing, we have been working on our diary entries. Our character is going to different places in the world. Each day, there’s a new place where they go. It has been a lot of fun writing these.

Have a fantastic Spring holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone in Term 4.
